A gentle C-section makes for a more natural experience
Many women prefer to have a natural birth experience, but sometimes a cesarean section is necessary to ensure a safe delivery. Nonetheless, having a C-section, or a surgical delivery from the uterus, doesn’t mean that a woman can’t still be an active participant in the delivery of her baby. A gentle cesarean section makes for a more natural experience where the mother can see her baby being born and hold it right away.
How a gentle C-section is more like a natural birth
One major difference between a traditional C-section and a gentle C-section is that it slows down the process.
Instead of delivering the baby as quickly as possible and handing it off to a member of the surgical team, the baby is delivered more slowly, head-first, just as in a vaginal birth. This allows some of the fluid to be naturally squeezed out of its lungs.
The providers at Premier Women’s Care of Southwest Florida also use clear draping during a gentle C-section so as not to block the mother’s view of the baby being born. And we don’t stabilize the mother’s arms so that she is free to move.
Shortly after delivery, we place the baby on the mother’s chest so that she can meet her baby right away and begin breastfeeding.
Promoting bonding is a key feature of a gentle C-section
While gentle C-sections are not common, the team at Premier Women’s Care of Southwest Florida knows from experience that this approach promotes bonding between mother and baby.
That’s because a gentle C-section allows for skin-to-skin contact immediately and for breastfeeding to begin within the first hour.
A gentle cesarean section may not be the choice of every patient, but for those who require a surgical delivery but still want a more natural birth experience, it’s a great option. Premier Women’s Care of Southwest Florida is proud to offer women childbirth options, because we know what an intimate and memorable experience childbirth can be.
