Our established pregnant patients may now use our self-check-in kiosk without going to the front desk.

Gynecology Patient Resources

Your First Visit: What To Expect

At Premier Women’s Care of Southwest Florida, your gynecologist or midwife will take time during your first visit to get to know you and understand your health concerns.

Your women’s health provider will take a general medical history to establish your medical record, and if you are having any issues, he or she will take a more focused history to gain a better understanding of the problem. In doing so, your provider may ask a lot of questions about you and your family. Some of them may seem personal, such as questions about your menstrual period or sexual activities. We recognize that this can be uncomfortable, and we place primary importance on establishing a relationship of trust. If you have any concerns about confidentiality, we encourage you to discuss them with your doctor.

Your provider will also perform a general physical exam and may perform an external genital exam or a pelvic exam, depending on the age and needs of the patient.

The Patient Portal

Once you have had your first visit, you will have access to our Patient Portal, through which you can schedule appointments, get lab results and other information from your medical record, and communicate with our staff, including your provider. You can also pay your bill online in the Patient Portal. We recommend that you set up your account as soon as you can.

Pediatric and Adolescent Patients

Pediatric and adolescent patients will not have a pelvic exam unless there is a compelling medical reason. If sexually active, teens may have tests for certain sexually transmitted infections. Some of the tests that teens need can be done by the doctor with a urine sample. We may recommend that teens have certain vaccinations. Your provider will talk to you about how to stay healthy and what to expect from future visits.

Adult Patients

At Premier Women’s Care of Southwest Florida, we care for women of all ages. Your concerns are just as important to us whether they involve overall wellness, birth control, menopause or gynecologic issues associated with advanced age. If you are coming to us as an adult patient, your first visit will focus on taking a detailed medical history and performing those exams appropriate for your stage of life. Your provider will also establish a care plan for future visits.
